Plasma Television Cleaning And Care

It seems as if almost everyone has a plasma TV today. Yes, they are very popular, but many consumers do not know some basic plasma television cleaning and care tips that everyone should at least be aware of.

Plasma TVs are sturdy enough and will provide years of "worry free" entertainment. But like any other major appliance that we have in our homes, proper care will sustain a longer life. After all, there was a considerable investment purchasing a plasma TV, so taking care of this investment is more than worth the effort.

The Foundation

Make sure your plasma has a solid foundation. Ensure that the plasma screen is placed in an area the someone will not be accidentally be bumping into it and knocking it over. These sets are wide and thin.

If mounted on the wall area of a room, pay attention to the manual's mounting information and instructions about proper mounting of your unit. If not properly secured to the wall, your plasma screen could come crashing down the next time someone slams a door in the room.

If you purchased a used plasma that did not come with a mounting unit, you can purchase these wall mount units at most most major appliance stores that sell plasma TVs.

Environmental Considerations

Excessive humidity and any areas where condensation is a factor are never good for the circuitry. In time, this type of moisture build up can cause damage to the electrical components of the system.

Placing the plasma TV in an area that has more open space around itself, will let it breath easier. The manufacturer's manual will cover venting guidelines to follow. Plasma screens can generate a lot of heat. If your unit is crammed into an area where the heat cannot ventilate properly, this will put a lot of stress on the electrical components of the TV.

Lighting Considerations

A room that has lower ambient lighting means you do not have to set the plasma TV's brightness and saturation controls to a higher setting to compensate for a bright room. Levels that are set too high will age the plasma screen much faster.

Cleaning

When cleaning the plasma screen, refer to the owner's manual. Manufacturers do not recommend harsh cleaners. When in doubt, using a non-abrasive cloth that is damp to pick up finger tip smudges, etc. should be safe to use. Never spray any cleaners directly onto the screen. Instead, spray onto the soft cloth.

Never use paper towels, kleenex or toilet paper to clean a screen with. These may not look abrasive but they are. In time, these will damage the plasma screen.

General Info

Avoid getting burned. All of the plasma TVs manufactured today have anti-burn technology built into the units. Leaving an image displayed on the screen for too long can still cause that image to burn a ghost of itself into the screen. Even with this newer anti-burn technology, it is still not a great idea to leave an image on-screen for extended periods of time.

Use a good surge protector with your plasma TV. It will be worth it should a heavy lightning storm ever surge through the house. There are some great advanced surge protectors on the market that will be more than adequate to use for your plasma TV's protection.

Plasma television cleaning and care is not a difficult task. You paid a lot of money for this unit that should provide you with many years of entertainment when cared for properly.
